Howard E. Gervais Obituary

Howard E. Gervais, affectionately known as “Howie” or “Snookie,” age 78, passed away on April 29, 2024, in Epping, NH, after bravely battling health issues. He was born on April 28, 1946, in Exeter, NH, the son of the late Ernest C. Gervais and Alice (Barr) Gervais.

Howard grew up in Exeter, NH, as one of ten siblings. He graduated from Exeter High School. After a period of self-discovery, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967. Howard served with honor in the Vietnam War, surviving the intense battle of Khe Sanh and earning three Purple Hearts. He was discharged on August 17, 1971, and throughout his life, he exhibited resilience in the face of adversity.

A dedicated worker, Howard spent over 35 years as an Extruding Technician at Hutchinson Manufacturing. His love for animals led him to the Harvey Farm, where he became part of the family, contributing his time and skills until his retirement. Throughout his years he spent many years with the Evans family on Ledge Farm Rd. in Nottingham, forging strong friendships and making memories that would last for a lifetime.

Howard's passions were as diverse as his experiences. He cherished the outdoors, finding solace in gardening, fishing, and working with animals. He had a knack for humor, always ready with a joke and a smile. His joy was infectious, and he touched more lives than he could have imagined.

In his later years, Howard found companionship and joy in the simple moments, often spending time with his "lady friend" Jane, watching hummingbirds from the porch. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering care for others, especially children, whom he loved watching grow and thrive. Howard was a natural teacher, eager to impart his knowledge and wisdom to the next generation. Howard also was a proud member of the Epping American Legion, where he continued to support his fellow comrades.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wounded Warriors project, a cause close to Howard's heart.
