TOM AND FELLOW OFFICER CHIP  IN DA NANG 69
Feb 5 1969 - General awarding Purple Heart to Gregory P Luth on USS Tripoli for wounds he received in the minefield on the Batangan Peninsula.
Feb 5 1969 -  Gregory P Luth and his brother Louis H Luth III on the USS Tripoli.
The photos of me on the Tripoli were taken by a Navy photographer. There is a photo of the names of the folks in the picture. The young lieutenant in fatigues is my older brother 1st Lt Louis H. Luth III. Our grandfather Louis Sr was a bird colonel in the army and served in WW1. Louis Jr was in the USMC in WWII. Louis III was served in the Riverine Patrol boats in the Mekong delta, saw a lot of action, and was wounded several times (most serious was a burst of 3 AK rounds that grazed his neck and killed the guy that was helping him into the boat in the middle of an ambush). His tour was up so hopped some transports to get up the Batangan Peninsula to see me before he rotated out. He got there on February 2 – the day after I was wounded.
